Weak and Strong Beta Normalisations in Typed -calculi
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a technique to study relations between weak and strong-normalisations in various typed-calculi. We rst introduce a translation which translates a-term into a I-term, and show that a-term is strongly-normalisable if and only if its translation is weakly-normalisable. We then prove that the translation preserves typability of-terms in various typed-calculi. This enables us to establish the equivalence between weak and strong-normalisations in these typed-calculi. This translation can deal with Curry typing as well as Church typing, strengthening some recent closely related results. This may bring some insights into answering whether weak and strong-normalisations in all pure type systems are equivalent.

On weak and strong normalisations
With the help of continuations, we first construct a transformation T which transforms every Aterm t into a AJ-term T(t). Then we apply the conservation theorem in A-calculus to show that t is strongly normalisable if T(t) has a /J-normal form. In this way, we succeed in establishing the equivalence between weak and strong normalisation theorems in various typed A-calculi. This not only enhance...

متن کاملUsability: Formalising (un)deenedness in Typed Lambda Calculus
In this paper we discuss usability, and propose to take that notion as a formalisation of (un)deenedness in typed lambda calculus, especially in calculi based on PCF. We discuss some important properties that make usability attractive as a formalisation of (un)deenedness. There is a remarkable diierence between usability and solvability: in the untyped lambda calculus the solvable terms are pre...
متن کاملThe S-calculus: Its Typed and Its Extended Versions
We present in this paper the simply typed version of the s-calculus (cf. KR95]) and prove the strong normalisation of the well typed terms. We also present an extension of the s-calculus: the s e-calculus and prove its local connuence on open terms and the weak normalisation of its corresponding calculus of substitutions s e. The strong normalisation of s e is still an open problem to challenge...
متن کاملStrong Normalisation in the π-Cal ulus
We introduce a typed π-calculus where strong normalisation is ensured by typability. Strong normalisation is a useful property in many computational contexts, including distributed systems. In spite of its simplicity, our type discipline captures a wide class of converging name-passing interactive behaviour. The proof of strong normalisability combines methods from typed λ-calculi and linear lo...
